COASTAL ORANGE COUNTY · INTERIOR & EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Lighting planned for the way you use the space.

New fixtures, recessed lighting, outdoor lighting, or changes to switches and dimming all begin with the room or area they serve. Plan fixture placement, electrical supply, and controls together.

DECISIONS THAT SHAPE THE WORK

Bring the layout and the light together.

The intended use, fixture choice, and existing construction determine more than the location of a light on a drawing.

01

Rooms, tasks, and placement

Describe the activities in each space and the areas that need attention, such as work surfaces, circulation routes, seating, or exterior areas. Share drawings, furniture layouts, cabinetry, and fixture locations already being considered so the electrical plan follows the finished space.

02

Fixtures and controls

Bring fixture and dimmer information if selected. Review compatibility, switching groups, and the control locations you want before equipment is ordered. Decide who supplies each item and whether the project calls for standard controls, scene control, or coordination with an existing system.

03

Access and installation

Review existing wiring, ceiling and wall access, mounting conditions, and the route to new lighting locations. For exterior work, identify the intended installation areas and existing supply. Coordinate electrical work, equipment delivery, and finish restoration with the wider project.

BEFORE WE TALK

Bring your lighting priorities.

  • Project city and the rooms or exterior areas involved.
  • Plans or photos already available, with desired fixture positions.
  • Fixture, dimmer, or control models already selected.
  • Who will supply equipment, construction timing, and access constraints.

DEFINE THE HANDOFF

Understand each switch and scene.

Review the installed fixtures, switching groups, and dimming or control functions included in the work. Agree which equipment documents and control instructions will be handed over, and identify any remaining adjustments or separate system work.

Lighting installation: planning questions

Do I need a smart-home system for new lighting?

No. Lighting installation can use conventional switches and dimmers. Integrated controls are an option when they suit the project; the lighting scope can be discussed on its own.

Can you install fixtures I have already purchased?

Share their model information and intended locations. Existing wiring, mounting conditions, controls, and the fixture requirements need to be reviewed before the installation scope is confirmed.

Can lighting be part of a remodel or commercial project?

Yes. Lighting can be coordinated with wiring, equipment, and the construction sequence for homes or commercial spaces. Include the layout, operating constraints, and the people responsible for fixture and control decisions.
